After Twitter and Telegram, Discord now has its own Clubhouse-like feature
Clubhouse gained popularity for its unique audio rooms feature. But you know what being popular means in the social media land – you get copied. It happened with Snapchat Stories, TikTok and now it’s happening with Clubhouse. The latest app to copy Clubhouse’s audio rooms is Discord. It will let people broadcast live audio conversations to a room of virtual listeners.
Discord is calling it Stage Channels, which is now available now on all platforms where Discord is available – Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and the web. For reference, the app already offers voice channels, which allows everyone in them to talk freely. A Stage Channel differs by letting a certain set of people talk at once to a group of listeners. It could be useful for more structured events like community town halls or AMAs.
Stage Channels make it easier to understand who’s the focus of the conversation and who’s waiting for their turn to speak. Each Stage has Stage moderators to help manage who is speaking and can add, remove or mute an existing speaker. Audience members can also participate by “raising” their hands during an event if they want to speak. Stage Channels can be enabled in Community so if you want to try out the new feature, make sure to enable Community on your server by going to Server Settings > Community.
Discord is not the only one trying to replicate Clubhouse. Twitter launched its own variant called Spaces, which is also available on Android, unlike the Clubhouse app. While the company says it is working on bringing its app to Android, the competitors are copying its features. Even Spotify and LinkedIn are working on Clubhouse-like audio rooms. And, we all know there’s that one platform that likes to borrow features from other apps – Facebook, which is also working on introducing its Clubhouse rival. Even Telegram and Slack have embraced it.

Not able to download PUBG Lite? It’s because the app is shutting down
Are you one of the players of PUBG Lite? We have news for you. The game is shutting down soon. No, this is not April Fool’s prank. The company has announced that it will be closing down PUBG Lite by the end of April. The app is shutting down on April 29, and new downloads have already been shut down on March 30.
While the company didn’t give a reason for the closure of its popular game for low-end mobile phones, it wrote:
“We are deeply grateful for the passion and support from the astounding number of PUBG LITE fans that have been with us. During the strenuous times of the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope that PUBG LITE was able to provide our fans a fun way to stay safe.
Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to close service after much deliberation and the time has come for our journey to end. We regretfully inform you that service of PUBG LITE is scheduled to end on April 29th, 2021 (UTC).”
The news of PUBG Lite shutting down comes after Krafton, the game’s publisher, announced last November that the game was going fully free-to-play as it ditched in-game currency system. The service ends on April 29, 2021, whereas its player support will no longer be available starting May 29, 2021. You will be able to continue to play the game and spend in-game credits as normal, including the L-COIN that you already have, until the termination time.
“We would like to convey our sincerest apology as well as our deepest appreciation to everyone. We truly hope you have enjoyed your time with us and please look forward to our future endeavors,” wrote the company in its blog post.

Verizon will give you up to $1,000 for your broken phone!
We have been covering deals for quite a while, and let’s be honest, the best savings come with a trade-in. However, companies usually ask for devices in good condition, meaning that your broken phone may get you little to no trade-in value. Well, it seems that Verizon is changing that, as its new deal will let you and many other customers get more for your damaged phones.
I know what you’re thinking, and let me assure you, THIS IS NOT A JOKE! Starting tomorrow, April 1, Verizon will let new and current customers get up to $1,000 trade-in value for old, cracked, or water-damaged phones to use toward its best 5G phones.
“Beginning tomorrow, April 1, and for the first time ever, for new and existing customers: trade in your cracked or water damaged phone and get up to $1,000 off our best 5G phones with a port-in and select Unlimited plans – and that’s #NoJoke”
It may seem hard to believe, but this is 100 percent legit. So, pick up your damaged device and head over to the nearest Verizon store since most of them are already open to the public. Experience the Verizon In-store experience, which is now even better, as you now have the opportunity to reserve an appointment to shop. You know, just to make sure you can go and check out your new device at a time that’s convenient for you, and you can do so through the Store Locator page or the My Verizon app.
Remember that this offer will be available for a limited time, so you may want to hurry. Make sure you don’t miss out on the opportunity to stop being that person that’s still walking around with a broken phone and turn those useless devices that are nothing more than pretty paperweights into something useful, something like a shiny new phone.

OnePlus 8 series is getting massive discounts, Apple Watch and other accessories are also on sale
Moto RAZR 5G is $400 off, Sony phones and more devices are on sale
The official news today begin with deals. I find it funny that Apple would never give out deals for their products on their website, but that isn’t stopping Amazon. They currently have M1 MacBook Pro that I’m using for 100 dollars off, leaving the entry level variant for 1200 bucks shipped. The Moto RAZR 5G is also 400 dollars off, leaving it at 1000 bucks… and I know, for that price I want it too, but you better not like photos to justify the purchase. Moving on to Best Buy for a second, the Apple Watch Series 6 Nike Edition is currently 50 bucks off, leaving it at 379 but, you can also get a 100 dollar discount on the Series 5, leaving that one for 299. Samsung’s Spring Event is still going on, where you can get the Galaxy S21 for 100 bucks, the S21+ for 300, or the Ultra for 500 if you have an eligible device for trade-in. We also have deals for Jabra earbuds, which for those asking, are my favorites for running, along with more deals on OnePlus devices and other products in the links in the description.
Google prepping affordable ‘Pixel Buds A’ whose details just got leaked
Since we already began sort of talking wearables, let’s shift the spotlight on to Google and what the company plans to do here. It’s been almost a year since Google released the true wireless Pixel Buds and it looks like they want to refresh them in a more affordable way. According to a new report from 9to5Google these will be called the Pixel Buds A, you know like the Pixel 4a. They will apparently have the same design to the Pixel Buds but with a few colorway tweaks. When it comes to the features, they’ll offer support for touch controls for you to answer calls, of course control music playback and summon the Google assistant but, it is still unclear as to what corners Google will be cutting in order to make these cheaper. Finally, the report mentions that we could expect these some time around June or earlier so, let’s see but, with Google you never know.
OnePlus reveals why its first smartwatch doesn’t run Wear OS, and it’s no surprise
Now let’s talk about another wearable that decided to ditch Google, for all the right reasons. OnePlus finally launched their first smartwatch last week and we’re still waiting on it but, there’s a ton of people asking over the fact that it doesn’t run WearOS. Well, the company’s Product Manager just wrote in an official forum that the fact that they chose their RTOS system over WearOS is because of the ability to offer better and longer battery life to their users which is totally understandable. They also note that RTOS allows them to use what they call “high frame rate debugging experience, which allowed them to raise the display’s capacity to 50Hz, giving you a smoother experience. So yeah, in case you missed it this new Watch features a 1.39-inch AMOLED display along with a 402 mAh battery that lasts up to 14 days with regular usage, or 5 days when sleep and blood oxygen is measured. And sure, I know some of you are concerned about third party apps, but let’s be serious, how many of you actually use more than one app on WearOS? They’re mostly trash.
Apple’s Mixed Reality headset might be unveiled much sooner than expected
Moving on, let’s talk about Apple’s Mixed Reality headset. At first I felt there were just too many rumors for how far away we are from a possible launch, but now things start making sense. Even with all the rumors of 8k displays and eye-tracking technology, that possible launch in 2022 made it sound like vapor wear. Well, now we have a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman that claims that “we could expect it sometime in the next several months, with this being their first major ‘new’ device since 2015”. Apparently it won’t happen at WWDC as Cupertino wants to make such announcement with employees, partners, and the media being present in the room and WWDC is set as an online event. However, they promised some insight on their platforms and they could introduce what they’ve been doing with AR and VR. So far we’ve heard from sources like Ming Chi Kuo that this headset could weigh around 150 grams, it’ll bring around 15 camera modules, a mesh headband and everything else we’ve already heard, so we’ll see.
Story of the day:
iPhone 13 Pro Max will stand out with its upgraded wide angle camera: Kuo
And Finally, for the hottest news today,.. NO we won’t be talking about that cheese grater iPhone.. Yes, we saw the patents, but come on.. I doubt that’ll happen, or at least not any time soon. Let’s focus on what we should expect this year with a new report from Ming Chi Kuo on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, or 12s, or whatever. Up until now, all of the reports we’ve been getting claim that the smaller iPhone 13 Pro will bring the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s camera along with software and hardware improvements like the 7 element lenses so, it left us wondering what upgrades the 13 Pro Max would be getting. According to Kuo’s latest report, the iPhone 13 Pro Max will make an interesting jump to a brighter and faster f/1.5 aperture on the main sensor, and this will differentiate it as it seems the rest of the 13 series will stick to an f/1.6 aperture on the primary camera. The thing is, I’m not sure if it’ll translate into better photos, because as it stands, the 12 Pro Max just takes photos slightly faster, and not really better. If anything aperture that sharp makes closeups a problem. Now as for quality, Kuo also mentions that all models will bring that 7P lens which improves light transmission rate, that can translate to better image quality. The shipment for these lenses is expected to begin in Q2 of 2021 so, some time soon. Other than this we’ve heard that most of the camera upgrades will include better wide angles and telephotos as well as your typical software upgrades.

HUAWEI maintained its profit streak in a tough 2020, but US sanctions did hurt
HUAWEI has today released its annual financial report for 2020, a year that was marked by pandemic-related business disruption and sanctions imposed by the US government that had a drastic impact on the company’s business, especially smartphones. However, the company still recorded net revenue of CNY 891.4 billion (~ $136.04 billion), which amounts to a rise of 3.8 percent compared to last year. The net profit went up by 3.2 percent and touched the CNY 64.6 billion (~ $9.86 billion) mark.
HUAWEI's net profit went up by 3.2 percent and touched the CNY 64.6 billion (~ $9.86 billion) mark.
The Chinese market alone accounted for 65.6% of the net revenue, contributing CNY 584.9 billion (~ $89.26 billion) to the overall figures. However, the revenue from other markets recorded a steep decline. For example, revenue generated from the Americas went down by 24.5 percent, while the EMEA and Asia Pacific region witnessed a negative growth of 12.2 percent and 8.7 percent respectively.
From a business arm perspective, the carrier business remained relatively stable with only a 0.2 percent revenue growth, the enterprise business grew by 23 percent, while the consumer business only saw 3.3 percent growth. Talking about the consumer business, the downfall witnessed by the mobile business was negated by the other product categories that are a part of HUAWEI’s 1 + 8 + N strategy.
During the press conference, Hu mentioned that the ‘8’ and ‘N’ parts of the 1+8+N strategy compensated for the decline in smartphone business. For the unaware, here’s the breakdown: 1 (phones), 8 (AR/VR, tablet, PC, TV, smartwatch, speakers, vehicles, and audio wearable), and N (services like video and mapping, and a wide array of other hardware such as projector and printer).
HUAWEI’s smartphone strategy moving forward
“The supply restrictions for smartphone business have caused a great impact and we haven’t really been able to see a clear picture about the supply for smartphones. So at the moment, it is very difficult for us to make a forecast for our smartphone business,” Hu said while answering a question about HUAWEI’s strategy moving forward. However, the HUAWEI executive made it clear that the company will launch more flagship phones that are currently a part of its roadmap.
Hu’s statement also quashes rumors claiming that HUAWEI was planning an exit from the flagship phone game and might sell its Mate and P-series business to give it a chance of survival. The HUAWEI executive also pointed that interest in its latest foldable phone – the Mate X2 – was high, and the company aims to maintain that streak of smartphone innovation in the foreseeable future. However, the HUAWEI executive also pointed towards the global semiconductor industry shortage, and that a lot hinges on how the situation unfolds in th coming months.
“Because of the unfair sanctions placed on us by the US, our mobile phone business saw a revenue decline,” Hu said during the presentation. In its annual report, the company mentioned that the number of HUAWEI smartphone users has crossed the 730 million figure globally. The company also noted that the growth experienced by its HMS ecosystem has exceeded its expectations through 2020.
The road ahead is not an easy one for HUAWEI
“For the industry it has been a lose-lose situation. It [is] very unfair and caused a lot of damage to us” Hu was quoted as saying by MobileWorldLive regarding the impact of US sanctions, which has hurt sales of phones as well as its telecom gear. An executive told TheWashingtonPost that 2020 was ‘a really tough year for HUAWEI’ on conditions of anonymity. As per a Bloomberg report, smartphone shipments went down by 42% in the last quarter of 2020, falling behind international names (Apple and Samsung) as well as domestic rivals (OPPO and Xiaomi).
The main reason behind HUAWEI losing smartphone market share following the US sanctions was the lack of access to core Google services such as Maps, Gmail, and Play Store. While the aforementioned software shortcoming doesn’t mean much for the Chinese market, users in other regions where these services are at the heart of Android experience find it extremely limiting. Additionally, the sanctions also chocked HUAWEI’s supply chain, which means sourcing core components for smartphones also became difficult for the company.
One key reason why HUAWEI lost market share in China was the inability to diversify its 5G smartphone portfolio across different price brackets in 2020. And with the US government showing no signs of making things easy for HUAWEI with respect to the existing trade restrictions – and made things even trickier for 5G equipment trade earlier this month – remains to be seen how the company charts its business plan for the international markets.

Apple is dreaming about an iPhone with the Mac Pro’s cheese grater design
When Apple introduced the new Mac Pro back in 2019, the internet had a field day mocking its cheese grater design. While Apple says that the design maximizes airflow and also helps with structural integrity, it’s the uncanny similarity with the kitchen tool that comes to mind first when you come across the machine. Well, it appears that Apple might bring this design to more products in the feature, with iPhones being one of them.
As per a patent titled Housing Construction filed before the USPTO and spotted first by PatentlyApple, Apple is considering the 3D lattice pattern of the Mac Pro for iPhones as well. The reason cited in the patent description is familiar – optimize air flow, offer better protection for the internal components, and of course, be pleasing to look at. However, the latter part about ‘looking pleasing’ is up for debate. Here’s what the patent application says:

Google prepping affordable ‘Pixel Buds A’ whose details just got leaked
Google is reportedly readying a new – and more affordable – true wireless earbuds that will allegedly debut under the name Pixel Buds A. As per a report by 9to5Google that cites sources familiar with the latest developments, the upcoming earbuds will follow the same strategy as the Pixel 3a or Pixel 4a – offering the core Google hardware experience for less.
Google is replicating the same formula for earbuds as the cheaper Pixel 'A' phones
Starting with the design, the Pixel Buds A will allegedly have a build identical to that of the Pixel Buds, but with a few color profile tweaks. To start, they will have a uniform white or green grain paintjob, instead of following the two-tone approach taken by the Pixel Buds which make use of black for all color options. Essentially, you’re looking at all-white earbuds with a matching white case, ear tips, as well as wings.
As for the second color option, it will reportedly go for a darker shade of green compared to what you see on the Mint Green colorway of the Pixel Buds. The ear tips, wings, and innards of the charging case will all be covered in the same shade of green for a uniform look. It appears that Google will match the color of Pixel Buds A with those of the upcoming Pixel 5a trims, but that’s just speculation.
Pixel Buds A will reportedly come in two colors with touch gesture support
Talking about the features that you’ll get on the more affordable Google earbuds, they’ll offer support for touch controls to let users attend calls, control music playback, and summon the virtual assistant. However, it is unclear what corners Google is going to cut in order to price the Pixel Buds A lower than the vanilla Pixel Buds which currently go for $179.
As per a previous leak, new Google-branded wireless earbuds will make their debut in mid-April. Earlier this month, two earbuds carrying the model numbers ‘GPQY2’ and ‘G7YPJ’ were spotted on the US FCC database (via 9to5Google), with almost the same dimensions as the standard Pixel Buds. Following their alleged FCC sighting, it is quite likely that the Pixel Buds A will make their debut in the near future – probably around June or earlier – rather than the typical fall event when new Pixel hardware drops.

Let’s start with Verizon which has a Buy One Get One Free deal for the iPhone 12 where you get the second phone and a bonus 250 dollars in credit. Moving on to Amazon for a second, the M1 Mac mini is currently 100 dollars off, leaving it at 800 shipped. Back to Amazon, the OnePlus 8 is 200 dollars off, leaving it at 500 bucks. And we have more deals on iPads, Amazon Echo Speakers, other Samsung products and more.Samsung’s app confirms a new pair of wireless earbuds are coming soon
Let’s move the spotlight on to Samsung as, it looks like the company wants to expand their wireless earbuds market. So far they have 4 models out with the Buds, Buds+, Buds Live and the new Buds Pro, which happen to be my favorite out of the bunch. Now it looks like those regular Buds are getting a refresh. The guys from Android Police just did a teardown on the Galaxy Wearable’s app APK where you can see multiple references to some “Galaxy Buds 2” which are apparently codenamed Berry. According to the report we could expect these around the end of the year with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with some updated features like multi-point connectivity, better call quality and better water resistance. We have no leaks on design so far but, they should look pretty similar to their predecessors considering Samsung’s other buds. We’ll see what we get.Xiaomi’s Mi MIX Fold is an inward-folding smartphone like the Galaxy Z Fold2
Moving back to official news, let’s talk about Xiaomi as after years of concepts, the company finally launched their first foldable smartphone, the Mi MIX Fold. The Mix Fold brings an inward folding design, kind of like what you get from Samsung’s Z Fold. It brings an 8-inch main display running at 60 Hz, and a 6.5-inch cover display running at 90Hz. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 with up to 16 Gigs of RAM and half a terabyte of storage, along with a 5020 mAh battery. When it comes to the cameras, Xiaomi is bringing a triple setup with a 108MP main sensor, a 13MP ultra wide and an 8MP “liquid lens” that offers 3x optical zoom and doubles as a macro lens. Now, Xiaomi is offering new features to let you take advantage of the larger canvas like a dedicated “desktop mode” that turns it into well.. A desktop instead of the regular Android UI. It is set to be available in China for around 1521 dollars but, we have no word on a global release. But yeah man that price tag doesn’t sound so bad when compared to others. The next-gen Apple chip powering iPhone 13 enters production in May
Once again, we’ll be splitting the hottest news into 2 Apple segments because.. Sometimes they’re worth it? According to a new report from DigiTimes, Apple’s A15 chip will begin production in May which aligns with Cupertino’s usual fall timeline. Now, the A15 will still be built on the same 5nm architecture we got on the A14 and the M1 chips but, we should still see improvements when it comes to performance and efficiency through the silicon’s design. However, the report mentions that Cupertino has already ordered TSMC’s 4 nanometer chips which will begin production in late 2021. The report speculates that these will be first used in a new generation of Mac chips that we could expect in Spring 2022. So yeah, we could reportedly expect new Macs with 4nm chips next Spring, though let’s hope that Spring event does happen.Story of the day:
Mark your calendars! Apple WWDC 2021 starts June 7 as an online-only event
And Finally for the hottest news today, part 2, and speaking of Spring, for the hottest news today let’s talk Apple and Events but.. It’s not what we were expecting. Now that the March event didn’t happen, we’ve been waiting for some sort of announcement from Cupertino and well, the company just sent out press invitations for WWDC 2021 which will be an online-only event once again, happening from June 7th to June 11th. Apple says that they will be offering “unique insight into the future of: iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS.” Pretty much like last year they’re expecting around 28 million developers to join the show and that’s all great but let’s speculate for a minute. For the past couple of year’s we’ve had major announcements like the return of the Mac Pro, and the Apple Silicon transition this year. And right now, Apple has a ton of products in the pipe line like those new iPad Pros, the AirTags, new AirPods which I won’t count out even from a silent release at least by Thursday.
